I, my son and hundreds of other car enthusiasts braved potential inclement weather to attend the July session of the Gaydon Gatherings. Despite dark clouds and some rain accompanying our journey, the rain held off for most of the time during the event.
This is what I said in my report on the last ‘Gathering’ I attended and I think it is worth repeating – “I had the privilege of attending a Gaydon Gathering and was blown away by the wide range of interesting and even rare cars on display. Whoever it was that came up with the idea of the British Motor Museum holding these monthly Gatherings during Spring, Summer and Autumn months, they were inspired. These events have certainly captured the imagination of classic car owners and enthusiasts from near and far, long may it continue.” And it has!
The piece saying that I was “blown away” by the eclectic mix of cars, was equally true last night. The star of the show was the TWR Jaguar XJS racing car. Initially on display outside the Museum then later in the evening raced up the exit road and back with the iconic roar of the 5.3 Ltr. V12, 500 bhp, engine’s exhaust notes reverberating around the car park and surrounding countryside. My son said that it was worth him coming just for that!
Here are a few of the cars that caught my attention at the July 2023 Gathering –
TWR JAGUAR XJS
OTHER JAGUARS
AUDI R8
HONDA INSIGHT HYBRID
SUNBEAM TIGER ROADSTER
TVR CERBERA
PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM

THE LAST OF THE BEST?
THE REPLACEMENT
