CSI is delighted to be able to bring you advanced information on an important motor sport related event that will be taking place at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, in 2025 –
2025 will see the 70th anniversary of the of the establishment of the British Motor Corporation Competitions Department at Abingdon on Thames. This significant moment in the history of international motor sport deserves to be celebrated in style; that is exactly what is planned at the BMC & Leyland Show, British Motor Museum, on Sunday 13th July.
A unique display will be hosted by the Abingdon Works Motorsport Celebration (AWMC) which was set up in 2019, supported by Mini Cooper Register and the Historic Marathon Rally Group. AWMC’s aim is to recognise and remember the success of BMC and British Leyland rally and sports cars across three decades and has put on a display at the BMC & Leyland show at Gaydon every year since.
The first event entered by Abingdon-prepared cars was the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally with three MG Magnettes and three Austin Westminsters taking part. A number of Minis, Austin Healeys and MG’s have already committed to the display, and it is hoped that other marques prepared for racing and rallying at Abingdon can be also be represented. A number of personalities, drivers, co-drivers, mechanics and support staff, including those from overseas, are being invited to attend the event
