SUMMARY:Ford of Britain Cars on Display at the British Motor Museum
DESCRIPTION:This is fantastic news for car enthusiasts! The 1973 Ford Capri Ferguson 4×4 is a particularly rare and exciting addition. Here’s some interesting trivia about the car: \n\nIt was one of only around 25 ever built\, making it a true collector’s item.\nFord partnered with Ferguson to develop the all-wheel-drive system\, which was quite advanced for its time.\nDespite positive reception\, the car never went into full production.\n\nThe fact that the museum is able to display one on loan is a real treat. It will likely be a highlight of the new Ford exhibit. \nFord’s collection\, which totals around 130 cars is not normally accessible to the public. The Museum is pleased to have secured the loan of a 1961 Ford Zodiac Mk II\, 1979 Ford Granada Mk II\, 1986 Ford RS200\, 1988 Ford Fiesta Mk II XR2\, 1992 Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4×4\, 1993 Ford Escort Mk V Cosworth WRC and a 2004 Ford Focus ST170. \nThese cars will form a display in the Museum’s Welcome Gallery. The Museum team are hopeful that the great relationship with the Ford of Britain Heritage Collection will present opportunities to expand the number of vehicles on loan and to change the displays often to bring more of this strong collection to the public. \nThe Ford of Britain Heritage Collection was moved from the company’s Dagenham facility to it’s Parts Distribution Centre in Daventry in 2022. DESCRIPTION:The British Motor Museum is once again hosting ‘Jaguars at Gaydon’ on Saturday 2 September. This is a friendly and informal gathering for all Jaguar fans\, not restricted to members of any specific Jaguar club\, or even to Jaguar owners. Now in its fourth year\, the show is a joint collaboration between the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT) and the British Motor Museum\,. \nThis year’s event focuses on three key anniversaries: 100 years of Le Mans\, the rescheduled 30 years of XJ220 birthday bash\, and 50 years of Jaguar XJC. Visitors will see the 1988 Le Mans-winning XJR9 up close\, along with two other cars in the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust’s Collection with Le Mans history – the 1954 prototype D-Type and the 1956 long-nose D-Type. \nThe organisers have invited XJ220 owners and team members who worked on the design and development of the car\, so visitors can learn more about this important chapter in Jaguar’s history. A line up of Jaguar XJCs will celebrate 50 years since the launch of this stylish coupe\, topped off with the very last example produced\, part of the JDHT collection. Visitors can see more JDHT exhibits in the Collections Centre and the dedicated Jaguar Zone inside the Main Museum building. \nOwners from any of the main Jaguar clubs:  Jaguar Breakfast Club\, Jaguar Drivers’ Club\, Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club\, XJS Club\, XK8 Enthusiasts Club\, XK Car Club and owners of Jaguar cars who are not members of a specific Jaguar Club club are welcome to display their cars on the day**. \nNew for 2023 is the Jaguar Drivers’ Club Champion of Champions\, allowing visitors to experience a Concours competition up close. Judging will be conducted in the morning\, with the winner being announced in the afternoon. \n**Vehicle display is just £10\, which includes entry to display a vehicle and admission for the driver. Passenger tickets are available at £10 per adult and £7 per child. Doors will open to display cars at 8:30 am\, and all vehicles must be in place by 10:30 am\, to ensure they are parked in prime positions outside the Museum\, and in the display area. \nFor attendees who are not displaying a car ticket prices are – £14.50 per adult\, £9 per child\, £12.50 per concession and £40 for a family. DESCRIPTION:The British Motor Museum is inviting visitors to take a nostalgic journey down memory lane when it hosts the ‘Classic and Vintage Commercial Show’ on 10 & 11 June. The show offers visitors a fascinating insight into automotive history and a rare opportunity to reminisce and relive the vintage era by seeing hundreds of pre-2003 commercial vehicles. \nThe ‘Classic and Vintage Commercial Show’ is one of the largest shows of its kind in Europe. It features a varied display of trucks\, vans and pick-ups\, such as Ford Transits\, Morris Minors and J Types\, to lighter lorries from Austin\, Bedford\, Dodge and Ford Thames\, through to heavier lorries such as AECs\, Atkinsons\, ERFs\, Fodens and Leylands. A good selection of early Volvos and Scanias for the 70s\, 80s and 90s fans is also expected. \nThe show also attracts overseas visitors\, adding to the diverse selection of classic commercial vehicles on display. For vehicle restorers\, amateur or veteran\, there is a large commercial autojumble selling vehicle spares\, photos\, brochures\, models\, and many other items associated with historic commercial vehicles. \nModel Show\nThere is also an indoor model show within the Museum\, with over 160 tables of models on display. Whether they are kit or scratch-built\, these models add a different dimension to the show. \nDisplay your vehicle\nThose wanting to participate in the show can enter their lorry for FREE\, with exhibitor tickets including entry for the driver and one passenger. This first reveal is open to invited guests only\,** however\, it is hoped that key elements of the collection will be available for all visitors to the Museum to view at a later date. \nPRESENTATION PROGRAMME \n11.00 am Start – Light refreshments will be available (tea\, coffee and orange juice). \n11.030 am – Presentation of the ‘Broadspeed Collection’ memorabilia and artefacts etc. by a member of the British Motor Museum Staff. \nAfter the formal presentation there will be an opportunity to examine the display material and of course\, to share memories and anecdotes of Ralph and his extraordinary ‘Team Broadspeed’\, with fellow guests. \n** For people who had a strong and demonstrable connection with ‘Team Broadspeed’  –  \nIf you would like to attend this presentation but haven’t already been contacted by the British Motor Museum or an authorised member of the ‘Broadspeed Collection’ team\, then you can apply for a place by phoning  01926 895281 or emailing museum@britishmotormuseum.co.uk  quoting ‘Broadspeed Collection’ \nINTRODUCTION \nHere is a brief introduction to Ralph Broad and his renowned ‘Team Broadspeed’ that became a legend on the race circuits of Britain and mainland Europe in the 1960s thru the 1990s – \nRalph Broad was born in Birmingham in 1926. In 1941\, at the tender age of 15\, he took over the family garage in Sparkbrook\, Birmingham. In 1959 he was one of the first people to see the potential of the newly introduced Austin 7 (Mini) for saloon car racing. Driving himself\, in 1959\, he won his class at Silverstone\, smashing the previous 850cc lap record. \n \nHe then started selling a full race conversion kit to other racers. This enterprise was very successful and led to the formation of ‘Team Broadspeed’ in 1962\, competing against the factory-backed Mini Coopers in Group 3 of the British Touring Car Championship. Team Broadspeed was so successful that BMC asked Ralph to represent the “works” with his team of Minis in the European Saloon Car Championship.  \nIn 1965\, Broadspeed began to transition its support from BMC to Ford products after Broad was approached by Ford with an offer to begin campaigning the Ford Anglia\, and later the Escort. In 1971\, John Fitzpatrick would win four British Touring Car Championship races in a Broadspeed Anglia. \n \nIn 1968 the Sparkbrook workshops were due to be demolished to make way for a ring road\, so he moved his operation to Southam\, in Warwickshire. His team\, as well as running a Ford dealership\, did early development work on a turbocharged version of the Rolls-Royce V8 engine (that would eventually emerge as the Bentley Mulsanne turbo in the 1980s)\, as well as consultancy work for TVR and Opel. He offered a turbo conversion for the Ford Capri called the Bullit. \nIn 1975\, Broad got a contract to prepare Jaguar XJ Series II V12 Coupes for entry in the Group 2 class of the European Touring Car Championship. Despite the best efforts of Andy Rouse and Derek Bell\, they were not competitive with the much lighter BMW 3.0L CSL. For financial reasons\, British Leyland elected to discontinue support for the Jaguar racing entries in the ETCC\, and in 1977 Ralph Broad sold Broadspeed to a former Mini-racing colleague before retiring to Portugal. \n \n  \nNote: – \nThe purpose of this webpage is to provide information on a Classic Car Show. SUMMARY:British Motor Museum - Collections Centre Open Evening with Dinner
DESCRIPTION:The British Motor Museum is to host an exclusive opportunity for visitors to look around the Museum’s Collections Centre at a special evening on Tuesday 10 January.  Visitors will have 3 hours to explore the 4\,500m2 building which holds over 200 cars from the British Motor Museum and Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust’s collections. The building houses some of the oldest British cars\, to sports cars and one-off prototypes\, some of which have rarely been on display to the public before. \nA select few of the vehicles will have bonnets\, boots and doors opened for this special event so visitors can see more of the cars than they would during normal opening hours. Visitors can also meet the Museum’s Head of Collections and the Collections Manager of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust\, as well as listen in to the workshop briefings to find the inside story on the current restoration projects in the workshop. \nDinner is also included with a choice of Beef & Vegetable Casserole with colcannon and peas or Vegan Winter Vegetable Casserole with roasted new potatoes and peas followed by Bramley Apple Strudel or Apple Crumble. \nCat Boxall\, Curator at the British Motor Museum said “We’re delighted to be hosting our first Late evening of 2023 to give visitors a rare opportunity to see the Collections Centre and a ‘behind the scenes’ insight into how we store and preserve our vehicles. The evening will include a walk around the car and a behind-the-scenes insight into some of the stories and thoughts which drove the development of this exciting design. \nThe evening will be hosted by Steve Cropley – Editor in Chief\, Autocar and Trustee of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust\, who will be in conversation with the automotive designer in a relaxed environment\, with audience participation and questions being encouraged. The evening includes a buffet-style supper and welcome drinks on the Gallery where a selection of Morgan cars will be on display. \nCatherine Boxall\, Curator at the British Motor Museum said\, “Whether you are a fan of the Morgan brand’s 110+ years of heritage or whether you would like to discover more about their future plans and innovative automotive designs\, this is an opportunity not to be missed!” \nTickets cost £25 per person including supper\, with a discounted price of £20 available to Premium Members. \nSaturday 26th November – 11.00 am – 12.00 pm\nTalk and Book Signing by Michael Barton\n \nThe Museum will host a talk and book signing event featuring Michael Barton’s new book entitled “Fast Lady – The Extraordinary Adventures of Miss Dorothy Levitt”. The book\, which coincides with the centenary of her death\, charts the life and times of Dorothy through the glittering years between 1903-1910 that saw her feted for her ground-breaking motoring triumphs and feisty personality\, to her untimely demise at just 40 years old in 1922. Michael will be talking about the book and answering questions posed by the Museum’s Head of Collections\, Stephen Laing. Michael will also be taking questions from the audience\, before a book signing with the chance for visitors to purchase a signed copy. \nThere is no extra charge over the cost of entry to the Muesum. \nTuesday Evening 29th November – 5.30 pm – 9.00 pm\nQuiz night hosted by Danny Hopkins editor of Practical Classics Magazine.\n \nThe British Motor Museum Quiz Night is back by popular demand on Tuesday 29 November. The fun and entertaining evening will again be led by special guest Danny Hopkins\, Editor of Practical Classics Magazine. Teams of up to 6 can enjoy a fun night out at the Museum. The subject rounds will include general knowledge\, music and movies as well as more general motoring knowledge questions. The evening includes time to look around the Museum from 5.30pm with the bar opening at 6:30pm. Round one is a trail around the car collection\, with teams needing to find the answers by 7pm when a two-course supper\, including vegan & vegetarian options will be served. SUMMARY:MGB 60th Anniversary at the British Motor Museum\, Gaydon
DESCRIPTION:The British Motor Museum will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the MGB at a special event on Sunday 25 September. This event will appeal to anyone who loves MGB cars\, whether they have owned one in the past\, know someone who has one or would simply like to see some of these iconic cars proudly displayed together. The cars will be displayed outside the front of the Museum from 10am – 4pm.\nVisitors can enjoy a number of special arena events with interviews by commentators and experts on selected cars and their owners. There will be a timeline of MGB Roadster cars from 1962 to 1980 and the MGB GT from 1965 to 1980\, showcasing a car from each production year. Visitors can also enjoy entertainment from the popular singing trio ‘My Favourite Things’ and Kev Read\, an acoustic singer.\nInside the Museum\, visitors will find a number of milestone moments from MG history such as the 1925 ‘Old Number One’ which was the inspiration for the MG sports car. There is also a special cross sectioned MGB GT that shows the inner workings and design of this famous car.\nThe MGB Register of the MG Car Club is also offering visitors the opportunity to purchase Event Rally Plates and other Regalia to commemorate the anniversary which can be purchased from their event website www.mgb60.com.\nTom Caren\, Show Manager at the British Motor Museum stated “We’re delighted to be hosting this special event to celebrate the 60th birthday of the iconic MGB with displays\, live music and commentary. A landmark anniversary like this doesn’t come along very often so please do join us and make the most of a superb day out!”\nVehicle display is just £10 which includes entry to display a vehicle and admission. Vehicle entries close on Friday 3 September.  Show tickets cost £14.50 per adult\, £9 per child\, £12.50 per concession and £40 for a family.
