DESCRIPTION:Photo source – ‘Bonhams’\n\n2025 sees the 70th anniversary of the of the establishment of the British Motor Corporation Competitions Department at Abingdon on Thames. This significant moment in the history of international motor sport deserves to be celebrated in style;  that is exactly what is planned at the BMC & Leyland Show\, British Motor Museum\, on Sunday 13th July.\nA unique display will be hosted by the Abingdon Works Motorsport Celebration (AWMC) which was set up in 2019\, supported by Mini Cooper Register and the Historic Marathon Rally Group. AWMC’s aim is to recognise and remember the success of BMC and British Leyland rally and sports cars across three decades and has put on a display at the BMC & Leyland show at Gaydon every year since.\nThe first event entered by Abingdon-prepared cars was the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally with three MG Magnettes and three Austin Westminsters taking part.  A number of Minis\, Austin Healeys and MG’s have already committed to the display\, and it is hoped that other marques prepared for racing and rallying at Abingdon can be also be represented. SUMMARY:An Evening with Ian Callum at the British Motor Museum 27/01/25
DESCRIPTION:Another exciting British Motor Museum exclusive ‘Late event’\, this time with Ian Callum CBE a legend in the world of car design. \nIan Callum has been in the business for more than 50 years\, with 20 of those spent as Design Director for Jaguar\, and now focuses on design projects that excite him\, within and beyond the automotive industry. Creations to date include: the Jaguar C-X75\, F-Type\, F-PACE\, and I-PACE\, the Aston Martin Vanquish and DB7\, Ford Puma and Escort Cosworth.  Hosting the evening will be Paul Cowland\, Presenter of Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars and Motor Picker\, writer\, producer\, self-described car hoarder and ‘decidedly average’ racing driver. \nUpon arrival\, visitors will have the opportunity to take a look around the Museum’s collection and be treated to up-close access to a number of vehicles from Ian’s extensive design catalogue. From 6.30pm a buffet-style supper will be served and\, at around 8pm\, Paul will start to chat to Ian about his career\, design philosophy and life with cars. Following a 15 minute interval\, Ian will take the audience on a design masterclass\, including a walkaround and discussion of some of his greatest hits. There will then be an opportunity for a Q&A session with Ian\, before the evening ends at 11pm. \nTickets cost £50 each\, with a discounted price of £45 per person for Premium Members. As this event is outside regular Museum opening hours\, Annual Passes are not valid. The gates will open at 5 pm for cars to arrive\, the Gaydon Garage feature will take place at 6.30 pm.  \nGaydon Garage Feature\nThe Collections Centre Workshop doors will be open at 6.30 pm and one of the Museum’s fantastic vehicles\, not normally seen out of the Museum\, will be brought out for visitors to look at. SUMMARY:Aston Martin Heritage Festival at Gaydon - 31 August 2024
DESCRIPTION:The British Motor Museum at Gaydon will again be hosting the Aston Martin Heritage Festival. Several special anniversaries will be celebrated – 30 years of the DB7 which is considered by some to be “the car that saved Aston Martin”\, 90 years of the Ulster and MkII models which were known for their exceptional engineering and technical prowess plus 60 years of Goldfinger  – the DB5.  The organisers are appealing to anyone with these models to bring them along to the event! The Trust will also be bringing a number of rare Aston Martin cars to the event including a 1934 Ulster\, a DB7 i6 prototype and a DB7 Zagato. \nAston Martin cars on display will be arranged according to which era they fit in. You can expect to be wowed by a display of cars ranging from the oldest surviving Aston Martin in the world\, “A3”\, through to the ultimate present-day performance cars. \nThere will also be a variety of trade stands for you to wander around and buy that elusive part or attractive accessory.\nAll are welcome\, whether joining the display or simply coming to admire. DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome\nIt doesn’t matter if your vehicle is British or not\, or if it’s a car\, commercial\, military\, bus\, motorbike\, scooter or tractor\, just bring it along. Be it classic\, veteran\, vintage or a modern classic – all are welcome at the Gaydon Gatherings. \nIf you don’t have a vehicle to display\, please still come along and enjoy the evening. This is a chance for petrolheads to indulge in their passion with like-minded people – whilst having a burger and a drink at a social distance! \nThe event will be held outdoors in front of the Museum. Those wishing to display their vehicle will be invited to park up front\, whilst those arriving in modern/everyday cars will be parked separately. There will be refreshments on sale including; burgers\, teas\, coffees and cold drinks. \nThe Museum itself will not be open during these evenings. Toilet facilities will be available. The gates will open at 5 pm for cars to arrive\, the Gaydon Garage feature will take place at 6.30 pm.  \nGaydon Garage Feature\nThe Collections Centre Workshop doors will be open at 6.30 pm and one of the Museum’s fantastic vehicles\, not normally seen out of the Museum\, will be brought out for visitors to look at. The particular vehicle will be introduced over the PA system and driven around the grounds for everyone to see and hear. \nTickets\nTickets are FREE and will be available a few weeks before the event. Check back nearer the time or keep a lookout for our social media posts where we will announce that tickets are live.
