Vintage Stony has been organising Vintage Car and Motorcycle festivals in the historic town of Stony Stratford for the past ten years. They have been growing in popularity years on year. There are two Vintage Festivals each year, one in August and this one on New Year’s Day.
This New Year’s Day 2022 event showcased pre-1940 cars and bikes, they took pride of place in the Market Square. As you can see from the photos I took there were some stunning, historic, vehicles on display. Many thanks to those who brought them along to delight us all. And many thanks to the cheerful volunteer stewards who were ready to answer questions and collect money for the Willen Hospice. The Hospice has set itself the challenge of raising an astonishing £4.7 million a year in order to fund its expanding activities.
I can vouch for the fact that, as advertised, at midday, there was one minute’s cacophony of noise as engines were revved at full throttle to celebrate the New Year (see the photo of the ‘Town Cryer’ announcing the juncture).
As we set off from near Coventry, at around 10.00 am., the sky was bright and the temperature at 13 C. (very mild for the time of year), all seemed “set fair” for our trip to ‘Vintage Stony’. When we arrived in Stony Stafford, an hour later, having been very fortunate to find a parking space, the heavens opened, I was able to run back to the car to get an umbrella. It rained and drizzled for most of the time we were there but it certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of either myself or my fellow visitors. I hope that you find that enthusiasm reflected in the following photos –
