Wootton Wawen Social Club held its car and village show today, Sunday 7th August and I was delighted to attend on behalf of CSI. The weather was glorious and there was a very full turnout of extremely interesting Classic Cars. One of the reasons for this excellent attendance is because members of the recently formed Stratford & Henley Classic Car Club (S&HCCC) put all their energy behind the event. Well done David Jones and your team for the effort and enthusiasm you all put into making this show a success.
Just a little information on the historic settlement of Wootten Wawen –
Wootton Wawen is a small village (population <1500) located on the A3400, just south of Henley-in-Arden and 6 miles north of Stratford-upon-Avon. There are several notable landmarks in the village, including St. Peter’s Church (of Saxon origin, and the oldest Church in Warwickshire), Wootton Hall, The Bulls Head and Navigation Public Houses and some fine individual houses from past centuries. The historic Stratford-upon-Avon Canal passes through Wootton and is carried on a cast iron aqueduct over the main road. The village has a railway station on the Stratford to Birmingham line and is also served by regular bus links to Stratford and Birmingham. It also has a very active Social Club which, with help from the S & H CCC, organised today’s Car Show. The S & H CCC hold meets here on the first Sunday of every month. If own a Classic Car and you are in the area please pop in, you’re sure of a warm welcome.
