This was RACT‘s (Rootes Archive Centre Trust) third Rootes Heritage Day held in the grounds of the British Motor Museum at Gaydon, Warwickshire. Again the weather was kind with burst of bright sunshine from a cloudy but rain free sky.
Over 150 cars, with their owners and friends, attended; this good number almost certainly ensures that the Rootes Heritage Day will be a permanent fixture on the BMM’s annual event calendar. Appropriately, most of the cars were examples of Rootes Group marques. Fortunately, for those of us with a broad interest in cars, the Rootes Group connection was interpreted liberally. This meant that the Matra Murena was well represented along with a unique RHD Rene Bonnet D’Jet. Pre Rootes Group cars, in the form of Sunbeams and Talbots, were also well represented.
As I have intimated, the whole collection of cars, with a few commercials, was an absolute joy to behold. Dare I say, without causing offence, that I also enjoyed looking around the Old Ford Rally event. Here are some photos from the Rootes Heritage Day –

SHABBY CHIC HILLMANS
HUMBER
SUNBEAM
SUNBEAM TALBOT
TALBOT
CLAN CRUSADER
PRE ROOTES – SUNBEAM AND TALBOT
FRENCH MARQUES
COMPETITION CARS
COMMERCIALS
What a great collection of vehicles, all with a Rootes connection, however tenuous in some cases 🙂
I hope that you have enjoyed looking at the photos and if you were there, reliving a memorable day. If you weren’t there, maybe you will be tempted to come next year.
